theworldbetween asked: what is chartpacks?

Hey There :)

I meant Chartpaks… They are a brand of markers than are usually used to print on a semi-transparent piece of paper… In Mexico that type of paper is called “Papel Calca Vegetal”, though I wouldn’t know the perfect translation in english… Their biggest advantage is that one marker can blur another marker’s stroke, and kind of combine different tones…

In the following link you’ll find the markers:
http://www.dickblick.com/products/chartpak-ad-markers/

And in this link you’ll be able to find common examples of this technique:

Hope it helps!
Best of luck.

This is just a preview of my last project in architecture school. All this was done in a time frame on one month (September 2011).

The challenge is to create town houses of about 180 squared meters (on its first phase) with a possibility of expansion in the future.

Its design has to be realistic in all its forms: economically, structurally, and aesthetically.

Its a competition between about 40 groups, each of 4 architecture students.

The winner will be able to build 15 town houses with its design at the end of this year.

Project made in 2010 by 4th year architecture students:
Rodolfo Delgado, Lourdes Prieto, Maggy Lortia and Alberto Padron.

This was a sketch I made when I was 18 years old and in my first year studying architecture. The house on the sketch belongs to Frank O. Gehry and is located in California. The technique used to paint was chartpacks.

Architecture is the thoughtful making of space”

A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away”.

This was one of my first projects concerning urban design.
We had to make an intervention on a set of blocks (chosen by ourselves) to improve the conditions of the chosen area.

Barcelona scale models during an intervention. Street name: Gran Via

This has been one of my favorite exercises during my career….   While in Barcelona, we had to analyze two blocks located on “Gran Via de Les Corts Catalanes”, the longest road in spain, which, when crossing the center of barcelona, turns into one of the most important roads there. The blocks assigned to me where in front of “Plaza Urgell”
We got to make a study of each property there, its use of soil, importance regarding public use, accessibility, among other things.  Then, when the study was conclusive, make a proposal (an intervention to each block) on how to improve the conditions of the place.
At the end of the semester, each student brought a scale model (same size everyone) of their blocks and put together every model, creating a scale model for a very big and important street in barcelona. Amazing stuff.

¨502,130 trees on NewYork, and only 32 of them are located on Bowery street. ¨
This is a project I made in 2010 while studying in Barcelona.
We explored BOWERY STREET (a fairly big street at New York), and studied the different types of typologies there rewarding architecture, urban planning, and the laws applied to them when they were constructed. I then made 3 proposals:
The first proposal intends to improve the ¨Green conditions¨ of the place by generating a plan for adding vegetation.  502,130 trees on NewYork, and only 32 of them are located on Bowery street. These needs to improve not only for air quality, but to protect the façades of the west buildings.
The second proposal focuses on Urban Planning. I proposed to make roads bicycle-friendly and adding commerce and walkable-area. Bowery is an amazing street full of personality. Let people see that!
The third proposal was created to improve the living conditions of a certain area. The main idea was to unify the whole block and create a better-designed, more organized complex to live in and adding little stores for everyone there.
I was in ETSAB (Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona) The class was Urban Design (Urbanística, Urbanismo)

We had to make an urban intervention in order to improve the living conditions in a specific area. So here, you can see the actual state of the buildings and what was proposed. Hope you enjoy.
